With the new addition of Dionte Johnson, the Baltimore Ravens look to rebound when they host the Denver Broncos Sunday afternoon.

The Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens have had similar paths to get to this game in Week 9. Both teams lost their first two games but have rebounded in a big way and have a 5-3 record. But the Ravens are considered much bigger Super Bowl contenders even with a surprising 29-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns last week. Baltimore is -9-point favorites in this game at home. Lamar Jackson is still the front-runner for MVP and King Derrick Henry is still running like he’s right out of college and redefining the longevity of running backs in this league. Both are future Hall of Famers.

That is why the loss against the Browns last week was so perplexing but Cleveland looked rejuvenated by backup quarterback Jameis Winston after Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury. Baltimore had won five games in a row before Winston looked like his vintage self from his days at Florida State throwing three touchdowns and 334 yards. The Raven’s defense held strong in the first half only giving up six points but collapsed in the second half allowing 23 points. The Broncos are a better team than the Browns so the upset isn’t completely infeasible this afternoon.

The Broncos are looking for their third win in a row as the progression of rookie quarterback Bo Nix continues to climb. He was great in October but the last two games are games they should win against middling NFC South teams. One of those was Carolina with Denver beating the Panthers at home last week 28-14. The final score was not indicative of how much Denver dominated the game. Nix had his best day as a pro throwing for three touchdowns and he ran in another to account for all of Denver’s scores on the day. Denver has Baltimore and Kansas City on the road in back-to-back weeks to truly measure how much this rookie has progressed. Either way though, Denver is farther than any pundit could expect as they look for their first playoff appearance since the team won the Super Bowl in 2015.
