Can the Los Angeles Chargers start the Jim Harbaugh era off 2-0? They’ll have a chance to do so this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
The Jim Harbaugh era in Los Angeles got off to a strong start last week. In the first game under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Los Angeles Chargers (1-0) picked up a division win to start the season, beating the Las Vegas Raiders 22-10. Unsurprisingly, given the way Harbaugh coached his teams at the University of Michigan, the Chargers dominated that game on the ground. They ran for 176 yards (at 6.5 yards per carry, the second-highest in the NFL in Week 1) while throwing for just 140. Look for them to run the ball more this week, when they take on the Carolina Panthers (0-1).

The Panthers also opened the season with a divisional game last week, on the road against the New Orleans Saints. In that game the Panthers allowed 180 total rushing yards at 4.9 yards per carry.
When the Chargers do run the ball, look for it to be a balanced attack. Last week they split their carries almost 50/50. Gus Edwards started the game, and ran for 26 yards on 11 carries. It was J.K. Dobbins, spelling Edwards, who had the breakout game with 135 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
As for the Panthers, they’ll be looking for more out of second-year quarterback Bryce Young in this one. The 2023 first overall pick was 13-of-30 in the season opener for 161 yards and no touchdowns with two interceptions.
