The Washington Commanders will be without Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin when they travel to take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4.

It is a return to Atlanta for Dan Quinn, as the Atlanta Falcons host the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon. Quinn was the head coach for the Falcons from 2015-2020, and nearly won the franchise’s first Super Bowl in its infamous collapse against the New England Patriots in overtime. The homecoming may be a mixed bag of emotions for Falcons fans. Quinn is having success again with his new team, and is looking to build off a 2-1 start even without his franchise QB for consecutive weeks. Jayden Daniels will miss this game being ruled out with a knee injury. Marcus Mariota filled in for Daniels last week and played very well against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Falcons are coming off one of their most humbling losses in recent memory in a game they were favored in on the road against the Carolina Panthers. Even without Daniels in the lineup today, this is going to still be a tough game for Atlanta to avoid falling to 1-3. That would be the ultimate bounce back for Quinn, who didn’t end on the best terms in Atlanta. That’s not to mention that Mariota was the starting QB for Atlanta in 2022. The Falcons are the very sligh -1.5-point favorites to defend home field today.

Washington won 41-24 against the Raiders last week, with Mariota handling business in a backup role. The win came without Daniels, and Austin Ekeler who was lost for the rest of the season. Mariota went 15 of 21 for 207 yards with a touchdown against his former team in Vegas.

Expect him to produce even more against his former team in Atlanta today. Jeremy Nichols went off on just four carries, earning 78 yards and a score against the Raiders. The Commanders produced 178 yards rushing in just the first half alone. Washington didn’t have to do much on the ground in the second half, finishing with 200 rushing yards on the day. They won’t be as dynamic without Daniels and Terry McLaurin was also ruled out, but now the Commanders know the formula under Mariota.

The Falcons couldn’t have struggled much more last week, dropping to Carolina 30-0. The Panthers hadn’t won a game up until that point, and they turned over the ball five times in their previous two games. But Carolina didn’t turn it over against Atlanta, and their defense made Michael Penix Jr. struggle mightily. The second-year QB went 18 for 36 for just 172 yards and two interceptions. The toughest interception to swallow was from Chau Smith-Wade, who returned it for an 11-yard score. Atlanta turned over the ball three times in total. You wouldn’t know it by the score, but the defense held Carolina QB Bryce Young to just 121 yards passing. This offense is going to have to right the ship quickly to beat a superior opponent even at home, in Washington.
