This year’s NFL play-offs will officially get underway when the Los Angeles Chargers meet the Houston Texans for the first time as post-season opponents at NRG Stadium on Saturday. The two franchises have faced off on just nine occasions in the past, with the Bolts leading their all-time rivalry 6-3 as things stand, winning 34-24 in Houston the last time they faced off more than two years ago. Jim Harbaugh is hoping to take the Chargers past the Wild Card round of the playoffs for the first time since 2018, while AFC South winners the Texans are targeting back-to-back Divisional play-off appearances.

Two foes unfamiliar with one another’s game will each feel they’re perhaps being underestimated heading into Saturday’s afternoon matchup.

Eerily enough, this will be the ninth time in nine trips to the post-season that Houston will line up in the Saturday 4:30 p.m. ET slot, and it’s served the team well in three of those last four visits.

Chargers fans – not to mention fans and playing staff – will be desperate to advance after years of play-off hurt, with 17 years having passed since the team last reached a conference championship.

Meanwhile, the Texans are looking to prove a major point of their own after being overlooked by certain members of the media and NFL fraternity in recent days:

Harbaugh is hoping the receiver duo of Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston is back to full fitness after missing practice minutes in midweek, while rookie Ladd McConkey appears fit and firing.

Running backs JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards were almost limited in training, though both should be back to 100% in time for Saturday.

Houston’s main offensive concern is receiver John Metchie after he was limited on Wednesday, while guard Shaq Mason looks set to miss out due to an MCL sprain.

Regional restrictions may apply.
