Philadelphia was up 10 in the third quarter in the 2023 Super Bowl but Kansas City came storming back. The Eagles tied the game with five minutes left in regulation having to complete a two-point conversion to do so. But this Kansas City team just knows how to win with the game on the line. The Chiefs drove down the field highlighted by a 25+-yard run by Patrick Mahomes who was playing on a bad ankle. Kansas City milked the clock and kicked the winning field goal with just 11 seconds left. Jalen Hurts’ Hail Mary to end the game came up well short and Kansas City won its first Super Bowl since the 2019 season when the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV against the 49ers.

The Eagles have been on mission to get back to the Super Bowl and looked primed to get there last season when they started 2023 10-1. But Philadelphia lost five of its last six games including to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Playoff round. The wind completely died from their sails and everything looked like it was falling apart in the City of Brotherly Love. Saquon Barkley was exactly the breath of fresh air this team needed to change all of that. He has been one of the most impactful free agents in recent memory rushing for more than 2,000 yards this season and recently won the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year to help lead the Eagles to a 14-3 record.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts is trying to join a small club with a win in his second Super Bowl appearance tonight. The last 19 quarterbacks before Hurts who lost their first Super Bowl have not even made it back. The last quarterback to do this before Hurts is Jim Kelly. Only three quarterbacks to lose their first Super Bowl and come back to win one are John Elway, Bob Griese, and Len Dawson who lost the first ever Super Bowl but went on to win Super Bowl IV with who else but Kansas City.

Philadelphia is coming off a commanding NFC Championship win against their division rival the Washington Commanders, 55-23. Hurts and Barkley were the biggest standouts by far each rushing for three touchdowns. That will be the exact formula against Kansas City tonight but A.J. Brown exploded to break out for the first time in these playoffs going for 96 yards and a touchdown. Philadelphia scored the most points by any team in a conference championship game since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. This team can beat you on the ground or in the air and is well prepared to get revenge especially with coordinator Vic Fangio leading the No. 1 ranked defense in the league.

The last Super Bowl to be hosted from the New Orleans Superdome was in 2013 when the lights went out because of issue outside of the stadium soon after Beyonce’s halftime show. Baltimore was dominating at halftime but the delay helped San Francisco rally nearly pulling off the improbable comeback. The Superdome has gone through a $600 million renovation since then but this Kansas City team will be ready for anything. The analysis has been that they haven’t been as good as previous Super Bowl seasons but all they do in response is to keep winning. Kansas City beat beat a familiar playoff foe in the Buffalo Bills and MVP Josh Allen in the AFC Championship, 32-29. Mahomes is already one of the greatest quarterbacks ever but he will likely move past Joe Montana with a win tonight and continue to climb that ladder to chase Tom Brady as the best to ever do it.
