The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants kick off their 2024 seasons Sunday in the Meadowlands.
The post-Kirk Cousins era of Minnesota Vikings football begins on Sunday in New Jersey, where they open the season against the New York Giants. Quarterback has been the biggest question around the Vikings all offseason, since Cousins left in free agency to join the Atlanta Falcons. Minnesota used a first-round pick on Michigan National Champion quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the intent of making him the next guy, but McCarthy suffered a knee injury in the preseason and is out for the year. That sets up 2018 first round pick Sam Darnold to be the starter for the Purple and Gold.

Darnold joins the Vikings after backing up Brock Purdy in San Francisco last year. Before that he started 17 games over two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
The Giants have their own quarterback situation to figure out. Daniel Jones, two-years removed from signing a four-year, $160 million contract extension, is facing questions about his job after struggling at the start of last season before tearing his ACL. Jones begins the season as the Giants’ starter, but with poor performance could face pressure from free agent signing Drew Lock.
The Giants did their best to help Jones this offseason by using the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers. Nabers was among the most impressive rookies during this year’s training camp. In his lone preseason game he caught four passes for 54 yards.
