In an interconference matchup on Tuesday night, the Buffalo Sabres (11-11-2) return home to begin a five-game homestand. This week-long stretch features multiple interconference matchups, starting with a visit from the Colorado Avalanche (13-12-0). The Sabres are 6-6-1 on home ice this year, but got tripped up in their two home games last week with a 1-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild and 4-3 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Last time out, the Sabres lost to the New York Islanders on the road on Saturday in a 3-0 game.

Colorado is 6-5-0 on the road this year, but has lost each of its last two road games to the Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars. The Avs last played on Saturday at home and lost 4-1 to the Edmonton Oilers in that one.

Coming into this game, Buffalo’s leading scorer is right winger Alex Tuch. Tuch leads the team with 22 points and also has a team-high 14 assists. Fellow right wing Tage Thompson leads the Sabres with 11 goals and has 18 total points in the season.

Meanwhile, Colorado has three players who are over a point per game pace. Leading the team is center Nathan MacKinnon, who has 36 points (seven goals, 29 assists) in just 25 games. Right there with him is right winger Mikko Rantanen with 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists), and defenseman Cale Makar with 32 points (8 goals, 24 assists).
