Two of the top teams in the NHL’s Central Division square off on Thursday night when the Minnesota Wild host the Colorado Avalanche.

Getting into the later window of the NHL’s Thursday night slate, the Minnesota Wild (26-11-4) host the Colorado Avalanche (25-16-1) at the Xcel Energy Center in a Central Division battle. Minnesota has been rolling for the last few weeks. The Wild have won four games in a row dating back to New Year’s Eve, and have won six of their last seven since before the NHL’s holiday break. With a win on Thursday, they’d have their second five-game winning streak of the season.

Minnesota’s offense in particular has been strong as of late. During this four-game winning streak the Wild are averaging 4.5 goals per game, while allowing 2.5 per game. Most recently, the Wild topped the St. Louis Blues 6-4 on Tuesday. They scored four unanswered goals to close out that game, including the only three goals of the third period.

The Avalanche were playing well in late December, and took a six-game winning streak through the turn of the calendar, and had won 10 of 12 games total. However they’re 1-1-1 in their last three games. That includes Wednesday, when they fell 3-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks in the first half of this back to back.

This will be the first of four meetings between the Wild and Avalanche this year. Last year the Avalanche swept all four games in the series, with one of the losses coming in overtime.
