The New York Islanders look to snap losing skid as they welcome division foe Hurricanes Carolina into Elmont. Watch live on Fubo.

After an electric 14-4-0 start to the season, the Carolina Hurricanes lost five of their last eight games as they skate onto Long Island on Saturday afternoon to face off against the New York Islanders in the first of four games between the Metropolitan Division foes this season. The Islanders are aiming to avoid their fourth three-game losing streak of the young season as their offense has struggled to find solid footing. New York ranks 29th in the National Hockey League scoring 2.48 goals per game while ranking in the bottom two of the league on both the power play and penalty kill.

Hurricanes center Martin Necas leads the NHL with his team-high 41 points this season and comes into this game with seven multi-point efforts in his last 11 games. Necas was a first-round pick by Carolina in the 2017 NHL Draft playing in only eight games his first two seasons before finding a spot in the lineup during the 2019-20 campaign but didn’t have his breakout season until 2022-23 where he tallied a career best 71 points while playing in all 82 games. Necas in on pace to obliterate his career highs of 28 goals and 43 assists set two seasons ago.

Despite the offensive woes, the Islanders have three skaters with double-digit goals this season led by veteran winger Anders Lee with 11 goals. Lee comes into this game on a four-game points streak and has scored four goals in his last six games.

These teams are very familiar with each other meeting in each of the last two postseasons with Carolina advancing dispatching the Islanders in six games in 2023 and winning in five games last season. Four of the last five Hurricanes wins have come by more than one goal.
