With five wins in the final seven games prior to the 4 Nations Face-Off, few teams in the National Hockey League are hotter than the Colorado Avalanche as they begin their playoff push on Saturday inside Bridgestone Arena when they drop the puck against the Nashville Predators in the fourth and final meeting of the season between the Central Division foes. Nashville had snapped a six-game losing skid in the final game before the two-week break and come into the weekend 18 points behind Vancouver for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 28 games to play.

Reigning league MVP Nathan MacKinnon leads the NHL with 87 points this season including 66 assists, the most of any player in the NHL. MacKinnon, the first overall selection in the 2013 NHL Draft, has posted back-to-back 100-point campaigns and is 14 points away from 1,000 for his career. The Avalanche center has feasted on Nashville this season scoring three goals and posting three assists in the first three meetings with the Predators this season including a two-goal, one assist performance in a 5-2 Colorado win back in mid-December.

Both teams rank in the bottom half of the league on defense allowing over 3.04 goals per game with Nashville having conceded four of more goals in seven of their last eight games.

The Predators have won three straight meetings at home against Colorado daring back to November of 2023 and the home team has won each of the first three meetings in this series with two of the three victories coming by three goals each.
