Playoff hopefuls face off as the Blue Jackets wrap their eastern road swing against the Devils

After snapping a two-game road losing skid with a dominant win over the Rangers on Sunday, the Columbus Blue Jackets look for their sixth win in their last eight games on Tuesday night when they skate into Newark to take on the New Jersey Devils in the first of two meetings between the Metropolitan Division foes in a seven day span. The Devils sit four points above Columbus in the playoff race despite losing four of their last six games and have dropped three consecutive games at home dating back to late January. Columbus won the first meeting this season 4-2 behind a pair of goals from Sean Monahan in the home win.

New Jersey owns the NHL’s fourth best power play unit that is converting on 28.0% of chances with the man advantage led by center Nico Hischier and winger Stefan Noesen who are tied for the team lead with 10 power play goals. Hischier, the number one overall selection in the 2017 NHL Draft, has scored 20 or more goals in each of the last four seasons and earlier this season collected his 400th career point with an assist in a 5-0 road win at Nashville.

Columbus ranks seventh in the league scoring 3.33 goals per game featuring a balance scoring attack with five 20-goal scorers led by winger Kirill Marchenko’s 24 goals this season. Marchenko scored six goals in an eight-game span including three goals in the first three games following the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off back in February.

New Jersey has won six of the last eight games in this series including four of the last five at home outscoring Columbus 23-8 in that span.
