After snapping losing streak, the Red Wings aim to stay in Wild Card chase as they face off against the red hot Hurricanes

Winners of five-straight games, the Carolina Hurricanes wrap up a four-game home stand on Friday night as they take on the Detroit Red Wings in a matchup of Eastern Conference playoff hopefuls. Detroit ended its six-game losing streak with a win over Buffalo on Wednesday and now face a brutal seven game stretch that will see the Red Wings take on six teams currently situated in playoff position as they attempt to remain in the chase for the final Wild Card spot in the East. The Red Wings are part of a five-team cluster within two points of the postseason with just 17 games left.

Detroit winger Lucas Raymond leads the team with 68 points this season, 22nd most in the NHL, and comes into this game with five points in his last three outings. Raymond, a first-round selection by the Red Wings in the 2020 NHL Draft, has posted career highs in points each of his first three years in the league and is now five points away from breaking his career high of 72 points set last season. The 22-year-old Sweden native is seven goals away from 100 for his career and eight goals shy of his third 20-goal campaign.

With at least one point in nine of his last 11 games, Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho leads the club with 62 points this season marking the seventh time in the last eight years that Aho has eclipsed the 60-point threshold. With four goals in his last seven games, Aho now needs six goals for his fourth straight 30-goal season.

Detroit ranks third in the league on the power play converting on 28.9% of chances with the man advantage and will be tested by the Carolina penalty kill unit that is stopping 84.2% of opponents power plays, second best in the NHL.
