The Carolina Hurricanes look to keep home-ice advantage when they host the New Jersey Devils in Game 2 on Tuesday.

The Carolina Hurricanes go for back-to-back wins at home when they host the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. The Hurricanes dominated the first game of this series on Sunday with Carolina winning 4-1. It was a big bounce back for the Hurricanes after they dropped the last three games of the regular season leading into the playoffs. The Devils and Hurricanes split the regular season series 2-2 so this should be a closer series than the opener would indicate. The odds makers would likely disagree though because they are favoring Carolina with a -240 line in Game 2 tonight. That might have a little bit to do with the Hurricanes leading the Devils by eight points in the Metropolitan division standings.

Carolina showed no signs of fatigue in the opener of this first round series dominating New Jersey and protecting home ice. The Hurricanes rested a lot of players which led to a a dismal finish to the season but it paid off to start this series. The Hurricanes were up 3-0 before the Devils even got on the board. Logan Stankoven took home the first star of the night after scoring two goals being all the offense the Hurricanes would need. Stankoven scored back-to-back goals in the second period to go up three goals. His last goal was on the power play as part of Carolina’s staggering 45 shots on net compared to 24 for New Jersey.

Nico Hischier scored the first and only goal for the Devils late in the second period. No one scored in the third period until Andrei Svechnikov hit an empty-netter late. Frederik Andersen got the second star of the night with 23 saves. Despite the loss, Jacob Markstrom still had 41 saves on the night as the Devils struggled with injuries keeping Luke Hughes, Brenden Dillon and Cody Glass off the ice. If all of those players can get back tonight, this is going to be a much closer game than the opener.
