The Tampa Bay Lightning will host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night, with both liking a redo on their season openers.

Both the New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning are looking for their first win of the season on Saturday night. Both teams had their season openers on Thursday, after both are coming off first-round postseason exits. Tampa Bay will be playing its second home game tonight, after dropping to the Ottawa Senators 5-4. The Devils have yet to play at home this season, and they are coming off a 6-3 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. It was the same team New Jersey lost in the postseason to in five games. Tampa Bay is trying to improve on a season where it also lost in five games to the defending back-to-back champion Florida Panthers. Tampa Bay will be the -140 favorites to get its first win of the season tonight, and defend home ice before the Lightning go on a four-game road trip.

The Lightning are coming off a narrow loss against Ottawa, after they got off to a tremendous start in their opener. Tampa Bay got out to a 3-1 lead in the first period. Nikita Kucherov scored his first goal of the game on the power play to open up Tampa’s biggest lead of the game. But the Lightning were not able to keep up the momentum, allowing Ottawa to score four goals in a row. Shane Pinto of Ottawa scored his second goal of the game to get the go-ahead goal. Claude Giroux scored on an empty net to ice the game. Kucherov missed the memo though and scored his second goal of the game with 14 seconds left in regulation. It was still not enough to pull off the comeback.

New Jersey’s game against Carolina was very back-and-forth, until the third period when the Hurricanes scored three unanswered goals. Jesper Bratt tied the game for the Devils with their first goal in the third period, but Seth Jarvis got the go-ahead goal on a redirect with under three minutes left in regulation. The Devils were outshot 33-22 in their opener, and will need to come with much more production to pull off its first win of the season on the road.
