Aiming to stay in the playoff race, the Vancouver Canucks open a four-game homestand against the suddenly surging Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.

Winners of nine of their last 13 games, the Anaheim Ducks come into Wednesday night’s matchup with the Vancouver Canucks just six points behind Calgary for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference as they look to win their first game in Vancouver in five tries. The Canucks are two points shy of Calgary, having fallen out of playoff position with four losses in their last five games since the return from the break. This is the third of four games between the Pacific Division foes this season, with the teams splitting a pair in Anaheim.

Vancouver defenseman Quinn Hughes leads the team with 60 points this season, third-most by any defenseman in the NHL, despite being held without a point in his last two games, snapping a season-best nine-game points streak. Hughes, a first round selection by Vancouver in the 2018 NHL Draft, is 14 assists shy of his fourth consecutive 60-assist campaign after posting a career-high 75 last season. The 25-year-old Orlando, Florida native is seven points away from 400 for his career.

Anaheim ranks 31st in the NHL on the power play, converting just 12.6 percent of chances with the man advantage, while Vancouver sits sixth on the penalty kill, successfully fending off 81.9 percent of their opponent’s power play chances.

The Canucks have dominated this series of late, winning eight of the last nine meetings dating back to Feb. 2022, including four in a row on their home ice. Vancouver has held the Ducks to two goals or less in each of the last three home meetings.
