The Presidents Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets close out their regular season on Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Winnipeg Jets (55-22-4, 114 points) close out their Presidents’ Trophy-winning regular season on Wednesday night when they host the Anaheim Ducks (35-37-9, 79 points) at Canada Life Centre. The Jets won the trophy for the first time in franchise history and will be the latest team to try to break the so-called Presidents’ Trophy curse when the NHL playoffs open this weekend. Since the award was introduced in the 1985-86 season, only eight of the 37 previous winners went on to win the Stanley Cup, with the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks the last to pull off the double. Anaheim, meanwhile, extended their playoff drought to seven years and come in on the back end of a road back-to-back.

Winnipeg forward Nikolaj Ehlers enters the playoffs week-to-week after aggravating a right foot injury when he collided with an official in Saturday’s win at Chicago. The Jets come off a 4-1 loss to the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Sunday and will host the St. Louis Blues in the opener of a first round series this weekend. Kyle Connor leads the team with 41 goals and 96 points, while Mark Scheifele has 38 tallies. Connor Hellebuyck is 46-12-3 with a 2.02 goals-against average and NHL-best .924 save percentage.

The Ducks dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Minnesota Wild, who clinched the final Western Conference playoff spot on Tuesday night. Sam Colangelo gave Anaheim a 2-1 lead at 8:45 of the third period before the Wild fought back to force overtime, winning it with 17.9 seconds left. Mason McTavish’s 22 goals lead the team with four others hitting the 20-goal mark this season. Troy Terry tops the squad with 54 points, while Lukas Dostal is 23-23-7 with a 3.10 GAA and .903 save percentage.

With a regulation tie on Wednesday, the Jets would break the franchise record of 114 points in a season set in 2017-18. Their 55 wins this season are already the most in club history. Winnipeg has lost in the first round of the playoffs each of the last two seasons and is in its first season under coach Scott Arniel, who played for the original Jets from 1981-86 and again in 1990-91.
