With a retooled roster that’s struggling to find their footing in the early stages of the season, the winless Nashville Predators continue their three-game home stand on Thursday night as the defending Western Conference Champion Edmonton Oilers skate into Bridgestone Arena. The Oilers lost their first three games of the seasons before picking up a home win over Philadelphia in overtime on Tuesday as they hit the road for the first time this year. Both teams rank in the bottom three in goals scored and goals allowed per game but are the top two teams in the NHL in faceoff win percentage.

Three-time league MVP Connor McDavid has been held without a goal in each of his first four games this season after scoring 96 goals over the last two years, including a career-high 64 in 2022-23. McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy in last year’s Stanley Cup Final series loss becoming the fifth player ever, and first player in 21 years, to win the award in a losing effort.
Nashville added veteran winger Jonathan Marchessault and center Steven Stamkos in the offseason, but they have yet to find a scoring groove in the Predators offense combining for just two points through the first three games. Marchessault helped lead Vegas to two Stanley Cup Final appearances in his seven years with the club after becoming the Golden Knights first pick in the expansion draft while Stamkos spent his entire 16-year career with Tampa Bay winning a pair of championships with the Lightning.
Edmonton has dominated this series winning 10 of the last 12 meetings dating back to January of 2020 and four of the last five meetings in Nashville.
