Top ten scoring offenses face off as the defending Stanley Cup Champion Panthers open two-game western road trip against the Avalanche

Winners of six of their last nine games, the Florida Panthers continue their title defense on Monday night as they hit the road to begin a two-game road trip in Denver when they skate into Ball Arena to take on the Colorado Avalanche. One of the hottest teams in the National Hockey League, the Avs have won 10 of their last 13 games and hit the ice for the first time after their season-best six-game was snapped on Saturday in a 2-1 shootout loss to Montreal ending Colorado’s four-game home winning streak. The Avalanche won the first meeting between the teams this season 7-4 behind a goal and three assists from winger Mikko Rantanen.

Reigning league MVP Nathan MacKinnon leads the NHL in assists and points and comes into this game on a seven-game points streak tallying 15 points in that span. MacKinnon, the number one overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, has now posted seven 50-assist seasons including each of the last four and is on pace for his third consecutive 100-point campaign after collecting a career high 140 points a year ago.

Despite being held without a goal in seven of his last eight games, Panthers center Sam Reinhart leads Florida with 22 goals on the season and is eight goals away from his fourth straight 30-goal campaign. Reinhart spent his first seven seasons in Buffalo before being traded to Florida in a Draft Day deal in July of 2021 and has scored 143 regular season goals including a career high 57 last season during the Panthers Cup run.

The Panthers have won each of their last two trips to Denver and four of their last five after scoring four third period goals in an 8-4 win at Colorado exactly a year ago today.
