The Philadelphia Flyers (20-20-6, 46 points) are three points out of a wild-card spot as they head to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, for a Saturday afternoon clash with their Metropolitan Division rivals, the New Jersey Devils (26-15-6, 58 points). Philadelphia comes off a win its last time out while the Devils have lost two straight and three of their last four, getting points in each of those four games which were tied at the end of regulation. Flyers center Ryan Poehling left Thursday’s game with an upper-body injury and his status is uncertain while New Jersey left wing Erik Haula has been out since Jan. 4 with a sprained ankle.

Philadelphia scored three second-period goals to claim a 3-1 lead en route to a 5-3 road win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night. Sean Couturier had a goal and an assist and Travis Konecky assisted on three goals. Konecky leads the team with 20 goals and 53 points while Samuel Ersson is 12-7-2 in 23 games and 22 starts with a 2.87 goals-against average and .888 save percentage.

The Devils lost a 3-2 lead with 4:13 remaining in regulation before losing on the road to the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 in overtime on Thursday night. Captain Nico Hischier scored a pair of power-play goals in the loss. He leads the club with 22 goals while Jack Hughes has 18 markers and a team-high 55 points. In net, Jacob Markström is 21-8-5 in 34 starts with a 2.20 GAA and .913 save percentage.

Saturday’s game is the first this season between the longtime rivals and opens a stretch of three games in 11 days between the clubs. They will play in Philadelphia on Jan. 27 and back in Newark on Jan. 29. A final game is scheduled back in Philly on March 9.
