The Ottawa Senators host the Carolina Hurricanes for their last game of the regular season on Thursday night.

This season series is tied 1-1 heading into this finale. The Carolina Hurricanes dominated in the first matchup back in November 4-0 with goalie Spencer Martin earning his first career shutout. But the Ottawa Senators bounced back with a 3-0 shutout of their own in December to tie the series with Shane Pinto scoring two goals. Both the Senators and Hurricanes have clinched playoff spots. Ottawa earned the first Wild Card spot and will be taking on the Atlantic leading Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round. Carolina earned the second seeding in the Metropolitan division and will take on the New Jersey Devils in the first round who are third in the same division. Ottawa will be a slight favorite in this regular-season finale with a -120 line.

The Hurricanes are playing on back-to-back nights after falling 4-2 to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. With the win, Montreal clinched the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and have the pleasure of facing off against the Washington Capitals. Carolina had seven players sit out against Montreal including Sebastian Aho and will likely be resting for the playoffs once again. On a fun note, Skyler Brind’Amour, the son of Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour, made his NHL debut in the game which is just the eighth time in league history that a father has coached his son.

Ottawa is coming off back-to-back 4-3 games in overtime. The Senators most recent game was a 4-3 loss in extras against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. Frank Nazar scored 48 seconds into overtime. Ottawa lost despite outshooting Chicago 37-16. The Senators were without four players but they were prolific on the power play going 2-for-3. Dylan Cozens was the second star of the game with two assists.
