In a rematch of the second round of last year’s playoffs, the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals square off Thursday.

On Thursday night, two of the teams at the top of the NHL’s Metropolitan Division meet for the second time this year. The Washington Capitals (18-9-3) lead the division, and will be hosting the Carolina Hurricanes (18-9-2) at Capital One Arena. It’s the second meeting of the year between these two division foes, and the first in D.C. after a mid-November meeting in Raleigh. The Capitals won that game 4-1, behind 30 saves from goalie Logan Thompson. That was despite the Hurricanes bringing a physical edge to the game, out-hitting the Caps 22 to 13.

This will also be the second meeting since these two teams squared off in the Eastern Conference Semifinals during the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year. Carolina dominated that series, winning the series in five games after splitting the regular season series with wo wins each.

The Capitals come into this game well rested off a win. They haven’t played since Sunday, when they beat the Columbus Blue Jackets with a 2-0 shootout. Thompson made 39 saves in that game.

Carolina is also coming in off of a win over the Blue Jackets. The Hurricanes took down Columbus 4-1 on Tuesday night. It was a particularly effective game at the faceoff dot for the Hurricanes, who won 60.7% of the draws.
