The New York Islanders (6-6-3) begin a five-game road trip on Tuesday night. This trip will take them primarily to the Pacific Northwest, starting off with a visit to the Edmonton Oilers (7-7-1) at Rogers Place. Patrick Roy’s team comes into this trip with points in four of its last five games. However they did lose last time out, falling 4-3 to the New Jersey Devils in overtime on Saturday. Most of the Islanders’ scoring this year has come up the middle. Their three leading goal scorers are all centers – Kyle Palmieri and Bo Horvat have six goals apiece to lead the team, while Bo Horvat is just behind them with five. Horvat is also tied for the team lead with seven assists.
On the other side is an Edmonton team that snapped a two-game losing streak last time out with a 7-3 win at the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Center Connor McDavid was all over the place in that game with a goal and two assists on four shots on net.
While McDavid is having another productive season, center Leon Draisaitl is Edmonton’s leading scorer so far. In 15 games Draisaitl has collected 18 points with a team-high 10 goals, plus eight assists. McDavid holds the team lead with nine assists, despite having missed three games.
