The New York Rangers host the New York Islanders Sunday afternoon in this Metropolitan Division rivalry.
The New York Rangers look to keep pace with the New Jersey Devils in the Metropolitan Division when they host their division rival New York Islanders on Sunday afternoon. Both clubs are coming off a win in this first matchup of these New York teams. The home team, the Rangers are coming off a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators with big thanks to goalie Igor Shesterkin. He made 40 saves on the night to easily become the first star of the game. That performance became even more important considering that the Rangers only had 18 shots on net. Alexis Lafreniere had a goal and an assist and Artemi Panarin also hit the back of the net for New York. The Senators scored in the middle of the third to make it close but New York was able to shut down the game the rest of the way.

The Islanders beat another New York team in their last game winning 4-3 against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Islanders. Buffalo got on the board first but the Islanders came back with three straight goals. Bo Horvat and Maxim Tsyplakov each scored a goal in the first period and each ended the night with an assist. Owen Power of the Sabres got the game within a goal but there was only 1:01 left on the clock to tie the game. The Rangers are -194 favorites to win this game at home but they’ll have to jump-start their offense and quick to spring to the top of the division.
