The New York Islanders (5-6-2, 12 points) are back on the road on Thursday night, visiting the Ottawa Senators (6-6-0, 12 points) at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. The Isles, in their first full season under coach Patrick Roy, come off a win at home over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night while the Senators were hammered Tuesday night on the road by the Buffalo Sabres. Former Islanders coach Travis Green is now behind the bench in Ottawa to add intrigue to the matchup.

Bo Horvat‘s tally in the second round of the shootout stood up in New York’s 4-3 win over the Penguins on Tuesday. The Islanders came back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period, tying the game on Jean-Gabriel Pageau‘s goal with 7:12 remaining in regulation. Kyle Palmieri had a goal and an assist and Ilya Sorokin made 32 saves. Palmieri leads the Isles with six goals and 11 points while Sorokin is 4-3-1 in eight starts with a .921 save percentage and 2.35 goals-against average.

The Senators never led on Tuesday night in a 5-1 road loss to the Sabres. Ridly Greig scored the only goal for Ottawa at 7:31 of the second period. Ottawa fell to 1-5-0 on the road while it is 5-1-0 at home this season. The club hasn’t reached the postseason since 2017. Brady Tkachuk leads the Senators with seven goals while Tim Stützle has six tallies and a team-high 17 points. Linus Ullmark, who took the loss on Tuesday, is 2-4-0 in six starts with an .892 save percentage and 3.02 GAA.

The Islanders are banged up, with defenseman Adam Pelech on injured reserve with a facial injury, while center Mathew Barzal (upper body) and defensemen Mike Reilly (head) and Alexander Romanov (upper body) are day-to-day. Defenseman Artem Zub (concussion) and winger David Perron (personal) didn’t play for the Sens on Tuesday and center Shane Pinto is week-to-week with an undisclosed ailment.
