After getting shut out by the New York Rangers, the Islanders returned with a nice bounce-back win in their last game, beating the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Tuesday. It was a great finale for Nelson, who scored a goal and added an assist to get out as the first star. Kyle Palmieri also scored a goal with the first of the game. Both teammates were expected to move at the deadline as they were on expiring contracts, but the Islanders shocked many by keeping Palmieri and are actively trying to extend him. San Jose would like to flush its last game from its memory all together losing to the Colorado Avalanche 7-3 on Thursday. Colorado has now won 12 in a row against the Sharks and they roughed up their former goaltender Alexandar Georgiev in the process. Colorado was up 6-1 until San Jose showed some life with a power play goal from Macklin Celebrini and William Eklund late in the third period. The opponent will get a bit easier tonight, but not by that much for San Jose.
