Division leaders face off with the Jets looking for their sixth straight victory as their road trip wraps in Washington against the Capitals

Riding a five-game winning streak, the Central Division leading Winnipeg Jets wrap a three-game road trip on Saturday night against the Metropolitan Division leading Washington Capitals as Alex Ovechkin closes in on the National Hockey League’s all-time goal scoring title. Washington has won seven of their last nine games including three of five on their recently concluded road trip as they prep for a tough home stand with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers set to visit Capital One Arena on Tuesday. The Jets have not won in D.C. since 2013 losing 11 consecutive trips with seven losses coming by two or more goals.

After a goal in Thursday’s loss at Ottawa, Alex Ovechkin is now just 19 goals away from passing Wayne Gretzky for the most in NHL history. Ovechkin, despite missing a month with a broken bone in his leg earlier this season, leads the Capitals with 23 goals and is just the second player ever to score 20 or more goals in 20 consecutive seasons. Washington selected Ovechkin with the number one overall pick in the 2004 NHL Draft and has 55 of his 876 career goals against the Jets franchise.

Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck leads the NHL in wins, goals against average, save percentage and shutouts this season and has collected 32 wins in each of his last three campaigns. Both teams rank in the top two scoring defense allowing under 2.40 goals per game this season.

Winnipeg owns the NHL’s best power play unit converting on 33.1% of chances with the man advantage and has posted five power play goals in their last four games. Washington’s penalty kill, third best in the league, has yielded four power play goals in the last two games including a season-worst three goals in Thursday’s loss to Ottawa.
