Two of the top teams in the Atlantic Division meet up on Friday night for the third time this season. It’s the Tampa Bay Lightning (25-16-3) visiting the Toronto Maples Leafs (29-16-2) at Scotiabank Arena. Toronto has one both meetings so far. The Maple Leafs hosted Tampa Bay in mid-October and came away with a 5-2 win, then back in Florida in late November they beat the Lightning 5-3. There’s one more matchup ahead in April, but Toronto can secure a win in the season series with a win on Monday.

Between those two games, Toronto was especially dominant in the second period. The Maple Leafs have scored 10 goals against the Lightning this season, with seven of those coming in the second period.

Both of these teams come into this game coming off of back-to-back wins. Tampa had a couple of home games on Thursday and Saturday, and beat the Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings. The Lighting have won five of their last seven games, with points in six of those seven.

Toronto also played Thursday and Saturday. The Maple Leafs needed over time to beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in the first of those games, then on Saturday traveled to play the Montreal Canadiens and came away with a decisive 7-3 win. Right winger William Nylander had three goals and four points between those two games. He also has three goals and an assist in the two games against the Lightning this year.
