The Colorado Rockies try to end a seven-game losing streak when they host the Washington Nationals in a double header on Sunday.

The Colorado Rockies nightmare start to the season continues when they play a doubleheader to finish this series against the Washington Nationals on Sunday. The opener of this first series between the Rockies and Nationals was postponed due to snow in Denver on Friday. That game has been rescheduled for 6:10 p.m. Sunday as the second game of a doubleheader. The first game on Easter Sunday will start at 1:10 p.m. allowing this series to conclude. The weather is expected to be sunny but the prospects on the Rockies season are anything but. Colorado has the worst record in the majors sitting at 3-16 after losing on Saturday 12-11. Washington will be the slight -115 favorite to win the first game and the series today.

The Rockies have had a problem with offense in this losing streak and that trend seemed to continue in the opener on Saturday. The Nationals built a 12-2 lead before Colorado’s offense started clicking to nearly pull off the epic comeback. MacKenzie Gore looked other worldly getting the win going six innings only giving up four hits and two runs while striking a staggering 13 batters. The Nationals hit four homers on the day with Dylan Crews hitting two of them. It was the bullpen that broke down for the Nationals with the Rockies rallying for eight runs in the seventh inning. The Rockies scored another run in the ninth but came up just short of the monumental comeback with Jordan Beck taking a called third strike to end the game with a runner on third.

The Rockies will try to break out of this rut by starting their hometown veteran lefty Kyle Freeland in the first game of the double header. He is still looking for his first win of the season with a 0-3 record and a 4.88 ERA. Freeland gave up five runs in five innings in his last start against the San Diego Padres. Jake Irvin will start for the Nats today with a 1-0 record and a 3.91 ERA after getting his first win of the season in his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates going seven scoreless innings while only giving up three hits.
