Toronto took the first game of the series on Monday with a 5-4 win at home. William Nylander opened scoring in the first period with a goal 30 seconds into the game. Nylander then scored again 12 minutes later to put Toronto up 2-1. Florida’s Seth Jones made sure the team didn’t leave the period without a goal, making it 2-1 just a minute after Nylander’s second goal.

Morgan Rielly put another goal in less than 30 seconds after Jones for Toronto’s third goal of the first period. After an exciting first period, the second only saw one goal for Toronto to go up 4-1 and take an extended lead on a goal from Chris Tanev.

Florida pounced back in the third period. Within the first five minutes, Eetu Luostarinen and Uvis Balinskis had both scored to make the game 4-3. Toronto pulled back ahead by two goals in the 14th minute with a goal from Matthew Knies. Sam Bennett pulled Florida back within one, but the team could never get the game-tying goal.
