The Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings are looking to avoid three-game losing skids heading into this Thursday non-conference game.

The Pittsburgh Penguins stay in the larger Southern California area, when they take on the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night. Pittsburgh is coming off a close 4-3 loss against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday. After winning its first two games of the season, Pittsburgh is now trying to avoid losing three games in a row when it faces off against LA. The Kings are in a similar boat as Pittsburgh. They’ve lost three of their first four games, and are in danger of dropping three straight tonight. Both of LA’s last two games were lost by just a goal apiece, with the first coming at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets and most recently in a 4-3 shootout loss against the Minnesota Wild. While these teams are fairly evenly matched to start the season, the Kings are the heavy -210 favorites at home to be the first to end their losing streak.

The Kings and Penguins lost by the same score in their last games, but LA’s came in a shootout loss against the Wild on Monday. Marco Rossi scored the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout for Minnesota. Frankly, the game shouldn’t have been all that close for the Wild after scoring the first three goals of the game in the first period. The Kings didn’t get off to a fast start at all, not scoring until the third period on a goal from Kevin Fiala. But LA would storm back scoring the next two goals, first on the power play from Quinton Byfield. Then Adrian Kempe scored with just 46 seconds left in regulation. They’ll have to get off to a much quicker start if they are going to end this losing streak.

Pittsburgh did get off to a fast start in its last game against the Ducks, but the result was the same. Justin Brazeau and Rickard Rakell scored the first two goals of the game in the first period. But Anaheim scored three goals in a row to take the lead. Anthony Mantha tied the game back up late in the second period, but the Penguins couldn’t score again. Chris Kreider scored on the power play with just 1:27 left in regulation to win the game for the Ducks. Expect another close game between these two con-conference foes tonight.
