The Penguins come into Friday night’s game with a record of 22-24-9, which puts them in seventh place in the league table with 53 points. The team will look to add three points to its tally with a win on Friday to put some separation between them and the last place Philadelphia Flyers as the teams currently have the same amount of points and are only separated by head-to-head results. On Tuesday, Pittsburgh took on the New Jersey Devils, falling 3-2 in overtime. Scoring for the Penguins were Kevin Hayes and Rickard Rakell. Alex Nedeljkovic played the full game between the pipes, making 19 saves on 21 shots.

The Rangers are sitting just above the Penguins in the standings with 56 points through 53 games this season. The team is currently 26-23-4 so far and are on a two-game win streak after beating the Boston Bruins in a 3-2 victory at home on Wednesday. The first period was scoreless, but Artemi Panarin gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the second. The Bruins tied the game up with five minutes left in the second period with a goal from David Pastrnak and made it a 2-1 game just 14 seconds later after Elias Lindholm found the back of the net. Five minutes into the third, Vincent Trocheck scored the equalizer for the Rangers and with eight minutes remaining in the game, Chris Kreider scored the game-winning goal. Igor Shesterkin stayed strong in net for New York, making 15 saves on 17 shots to earn the win.
The Penguins and Rangers last met in early December and New York picked up a 4-2 win at home.
