After suffering their first loss of the year on Saturday, the Calgary Flames return to the ice on Tuesday night to host the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Calgary Flames (4-0-1) are on a hot start to begin the 2024-2025 regular season. Calgary won its first four games of the season, before dropping its first game of the year Saturday night. That game was on the road, against the Seattle Kraken and took overtime to settle. So while the Flames still have gotten at least one point in all five of their games, this is still the first loss they’ll have to back bounce from. Ryan Huska‘s team returns to the ice Tuesday night, kicking off a three game homestand with the Pittsburgh Penguins (3-4-0) coming to town.

The Flames have had success on both ends of the ice to start the season. They’re averaging four goals per game on offense, and allowing 2.4 per game on defense. As good as that defensive number looks realistically they’re playing better as of late – they allowed five goals in their opener against the Vancouver Canucks, then three in their second game against the Philadelphia Flyers. They haven’t allowed more than one goal in regulation in each of their last three games.

The Penguins come in playing the second game of a four-game Western Canada road trip. They last skated on Sunday, and fell 6-3 to the Winnipeg Jets. Amid its up-and-down start Pittsburgh has been good offensively, scoring 3.5 goals per game through its first seven games. Center Evgeni Malkin has been on a tear, with 11 points (two goals, nine assists) through seven games.
