After winless road trip, the Blue Jackets returns home to face Crosby and the Penguins

Two goals away from 600 for his storied career, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins skate into Nationwide Arena on Friday night in the first of three games this season against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Metropolitan Division foes have had a bumpy start to the 2024-25 National Hockey League season as the Penguins have won just six of their first 18 games while the Blue Jackets have lost six in a row after a solid 5-3-1 start. The Jackets was outscored 23-8 on their winless five-game losing skid but will be more than happy to return to Columbus where they have won four of their last six games on home ice.

Crosby, in his 20th season in the NHL, is two goals away from becoming just the eighth player in NHL history to record 600 goals and 1,000 assists and will be the third Penguin to achieve the mark joining Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr in the esteemed club. After a five-goals in three games spurt, Crosby has been held without a goal in four consecutive games but has 20 goals in 42 career games against Columbus.

Blue Jackets winger Kirill Marchenko leads the team with 15 points and has three points in his last four games. The second-round selection by Columbus in the 2018 NHL Draft, Marchenko has scored 21 or more goals in each of the last two seasons.

Both teams rank in the bottom four in the league allowing over 3.60 goals per game despite being ranked in the top half of the league on the penalty kill.

Pittsburgh has won 11 of the last 13 games in this series dating back to December of 2019 with both of the Columbus victories coming at home in the last three meetings.
