Wild open their season-longest home stand as the playoff push continues in matinee matchup against the Penguins.

Winners of two of their last three games, the Minnesota Wild return home to Xcel Energy Center on Sunday afternoon in a rare home matinee as they face off against the slumping Pittsburgh Penguins looking to sweep the season series and remain in a hotly contest Central Division playoff chase. The Penguins have dropped eight of their last nine games including four in a row on away ice as they conclude a Western Conference road trip looking for any kind of offensive punch having scored just one goal in the last six periods. Minnesota won the first game of the series 5-3 behind a two-goal, one assist effort from center Frederick Gaudreau back in late October.

Wild winger Matt Boldy leads the team with 54 points this season and comes into this game with a point in five of his last seven games after skating for the U.S. in the 4 Nations Face-Off last month.

Boldy, a first-round selection by Minnesota in the 2019 NHL Draft, has posted career highs in assists and points each of his first three seasons in the league and is 16 points away from his first career 70-point campaign. The 23-year-old Millis, Massachusetts native has a goal and five assists in six career games against the Penguins.

In his 20th season, Penguins center Sidney Crosby again leads the team in points and is three assists away from his 12th season with 50 or more assists. Earlier this season Crosby, the number one overall selection in the 2005 NHL Draft, became just the sixth player in NHL history to accumulate over 600 goals and 1,00 career assists.

Pittsburgh has won four of its last five visits to Minneapolis scoring four or more goals in three straight victories between 2019 and 2022.
