The struggling New York Rangers (17-20-1, 35 points) lost the front end of their weekend back-to-back on Saturday and get right back to it on Sunday when they face the NHL-worst Chicago Blackhawks (13-24-2, 28 points) at the United Center in Chicago. New York hasn’t won consecutive games since taking three in a row from Nov. 14-19 and are just 5-16-0 since. The Blackhawks snapped a five-game losing streak with a Friday night win at home but are four points behind the San Jose Sharks with the worst record in the league.

The Rangers jumped out to a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game on Saturday but the Washington Capitals roared back for a 7-4 win. Chris Kreider, Sam Carrick, Filip Chytil and Mika Zibanejad had the goals for New York in the loss. Artemi Panarin leads the team with 16 goals and 39 points. With No. 1 goalie Igor Shesterkin on injured reserve, veteran Jonathan Quick is 6-5-0 in 14 games with a 2.54 goals-against average and .903 save percentage.

The first of Nick Foligno’s two goals on Friday gave Chicago the lead for good en route to a 4-2 win over the visiting Montreal Canadiens. Arvid Soderblom stopped 38 shots to earn the win in net and Tyler Bertuzzi and Pat Maroon also scored. Bertuzzi’s goal was his team-high 13th while Connor Bedard has 10 goals and a club-best 34 points. Petr Mrázek is 7-14-1 in 23 starts with a 3.23 GAA and .893 save percentage.

Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy did not play on Friday night with a groin injury and fellow blueliner Alec Martinez has been out since Dec. 7 with a neck injury. Chicago can wrap up a season sweep of the Rangers after taking a 2-1 win at New York on Dec. 9.
