The Detroit Red Wings (15-18-4) haven’t won three games in a row since mid-October, but have a chance to do so on Thursday night. Detroit will have an Eastern Conference inter-division matchup on the road, taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets (16-16-6) at Nationwide Arena. It’s the first matchup of the year between the two teams. Last year, the Red Wings swept the season series winning each of the three meetings. This is the Red Wings’ first game of the 2025 calendar year. Detroit last played on New Year’s Eve on Tuesday, and beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 at home. Left winger J.T. Compher and right winger Jonatan Berggren both had two point games in that one, with a goal and an assist for each. Prior to that, Detroit beat the Washington Capitals 2-0.

Columbus comes in having won three of its last four games, and four of its last six. The Blue Jackets’ most recent game was also on Tuesday, and saw them pick up a 4-3 shootout win against the Carolina Hurricanes. Right winger Kirill Marchenko scored two goals for Columbus in that one, while center Sean Monahan had three assists. Marchenko now has a team leading 16 goals, and also leads the Blue Jackets with 42 points in 38 games/
