The Detroit Red Wings travel to face off against the Philadelphia Flyers after both teams ended extended losing streaks.

Only four points separate the Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers when they face off Thursday night. Detroit is coming off a 6-5 shootout win against the Buffalo Sabres that finally ended a five-game losing streak for the Red Wings. All five of those losses were within one goal and two of them were in overtime. Detroit finally got over the hump in a one-score game largely thanks to Andrew Copp and a strong third period against Buffalo. Detroit was down 3-2 after a high-scoring first period and tied the second period within a minute but Buffalo scored two goals to go up 5-3. But the Sabres couldn’t score again. Detroit scored two goals in the third to tie the game including the second goal from Copp. Neither team scored in the extra period but the Red Wings took advantage in the shootout with Detroit scoring two goals capped by a wrist shot from Dylan Larkin. Buffalo shouldn’t have even been in the game only securing 21 shots compared to Detroit’s 31.

Philadelphia is also coming off ending a losing skid by beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 for its first win in December. It ended a three-game losing streak and was the team’s first win in December. Despite the final score, the game was never really close with the Flyers getting up 5-1 early in the third. Travis Konecny was the first star of the game scoring two goals. Morgan Frost was right behind with a goal and an assist. The Philly defense was great holding the Blue Jackets to only 18 shots on the game. The Flyers should be the favorites once again here at home.
