After playing the first leg of a back-to-back in Minnesota earlier this weekend, the Buffalo Sabres head to Canada Life Centre to face off against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday afternoon. Although the Sabres are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, the Jets are in the race for the President’s Trophy with 100 points on a 48-18-4 record. The Jets plus-78 goal differential is the best in the NHL this season, while Winnipeg is 6-3-1 in its last 10 games. Buffalo, on the other hand, have the lowest point total in the Eastern Conference with 60 points on a 27-35-6 pace. Earlier this season, the Jets earned a 4-3 victory in overtime over the Sabres in Buffalo.

Most recently, the Jets earned a major 4-3 overtime victory over the Oilers in Edmonton on Thursday night. Kyle Connor scored 1:13 into overtime to give the Jets the win. Cole Perfetti, Josh Morrissey and Brandon Tanev were the other goal scorers in the game for the Jets. 

As for Buffalo, the Sabres lost their second consecutive game in a 4-1 loss to the Wild on Saturday afternoon. Minnesota scored three times in the second period to take a commanding lead, while JJ Peterka’s 21st goal of the season was the lone tally for the Sabres. 

The Jets will square off against the Sabres at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg on Sunday.
