This is a matchup between polar opposites in the Atlantic Division when the Florida Panthers host the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

The NHL is in full swing on Saturday after a wild trade deadline with one of the big beneficiaries being the Florida Panthers. Florida will host the Buffalo Sabres tonight after trading for Brad Marchand from the Boston Bruins as the clock nearly expired. The Bruins will receive a conditional second-round pick in 2027 for the swap. Marchand was in the final year of his eight-year deal and has been with Boston for his entire career. The winger should be a great veteran presence in the Panthers’ locker room as they look to continue their defense of the Stanley Cup. This series is tied 1-1 heading into Game 3 of this season series. Both matchups have ended in 5-2 final scores but Florida should be the heavy favorite to take the lead in this series playing at home tonight.

The Panthers will try to create more breathing room in front of Toronto holding only a two-point advantage in the Atlantic division. Florida has won five in a row and seven of its last eight games. The Panthers are coming off a dominant 3-0 shutout against the Columbus Blue Jackets at on Thursday. Sam Reinhart scored a goal and added two assists to take home the first star while Sergei Bobrovsky earned the shutout, moving to 10th place on the NHL wins list in the process. It was Bobrovsky’s second shutout in four games and his fourth of the season. The Panthers defense was stout holding the Blue Jackets to just 16 shots all night. Columbus has 14 more points than Buffalo so Florida will be even more favored tonight.

The Sabres have been struggling lately trying to break a five-game losing streak after dropping to another Florida opponent on Thursday, losing 6-5 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Jake Guentzel couldn’t be stopped earning a hat trick and Oliver Bjorkstrand grabbed the go-ahead goal early in the third period. The tough pill to swallow was that Buffalo was up 5-3 late in the second period but Tampa scored three unanswered goals the rest of the way. They’ll need that repeat offensive performance to pull off this upset tonight.
