The Pittsburgh Penguins try to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Ottawa Senators in this Sunday night matchup.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are trying to break up a three-game losing streak when they host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night. This will be a tough game to do it in though. Even though Pittsburgh is at home, the Penguins have lost four of their last five after winning four games in a row. Ottawa is going for its third win in a row as well and the three-game season series sweep of the Penguins. Ottawa won the first game against Pittsburgh in a close overtime win in the middle of December and blew out the Penguins back in January 5-0 to win the series. Shane Pinto scored two goals in that game and Leevi Merilainen made 30 saves. The Senators are the -135 favorites on the road tonight.

Ottawa will be playing on back-to-back nights after beating the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. Ridly Greig scored the first goal of the game and added an assist to earn the first star of the game. Pinto was right behind him with the second star after assisting two goals. Jake Sanderson scored the ultimate game-winning goal and the Senators needed it because Columbus got within a goal later in the third period. This team looks locked for the first wild card spot in the East.

The Penguins are coming off a lopsided 7-3 loss against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday. The game was close after the first period with Sidney Crosby cutting Buffalo’s lead to 2-1. But the Sabres went on a tear scoring five goals in the second period. Blake Lizotte and Kevin Hayes both scored in the third period and the Penguins shut the Sabres out the rest of the game but it was too little, too late by then. With Crosby’s goal, he broke an NHL record for point-per-game consistency he shared with the Great One Wayne Gretzky. The goal was his 80th point of the season which guaranteed he will finish this season averaging at least a point per game. Still witnessing this greatness 20 years later into Crosby’s career is worth tuning in alone.
