Both teams are trying to get back in the win column today when the Boston Bruins host the San Jose Sharks on Monday.

The San Jose Sharks and Boston Bruins kick off an action-packed Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in the NHL on Monday afternoon. The will be the first time the Sharks and Bruins play this season. The Bruins might not be having the season they expected but they should be the heavy favorites at home today. San Jose is last in the Pacific by a mile with 34 points and are likely to have the best odds in the lottery in back-to-back NHL drafts. The Bruins are the -250 favorites heading into this matchup. Boston is trying to bounce back from a tough 6-5 loss against the Ottawa Senators in a shootout on Saturday that would have given the Bruins three wins in a row.

The biggest disparity of the game was how much Ottawa outshot Boston by a 44-28 clip respectively. The Senators got up early scoring the first two goals of the game but Boston responded with three straight of its own. The Bruins got up 5-3 but Ottawa tied it up with just 12 seconds left in regulation. The Senators made sure to not waste the comeback with Tim Stützle scoring the only goal of the shootout frame. David Pastrnak was the player of the game for Boston with a goal that tied the game at the end of the first at 2-2 and he added two assists.

San Jose has lost five of its last six games and it is trying to avoid three losses in a row. The Sharks are coming off back-to-back 4-1 losses. First they lost to Columbus and most recently they lost to the New York Islanders on Saturday. San Jose was outshot 31-19 in a game that got out of hand quickly. San Jose tied the game at one goal apiece with a score from Barclay Goodrow but the Sharks couldn’t score again. The Sharks will need many more opportunities to have any shot of pulling off this upset today.
