The Utah Hockey Club sets out on a two-game weekend road trip against Central Division foe Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.

After winning four of five games on their eastern road trip, the Colorado Avalanche return home to Ball Arena on Thursday night as they welcome the Utah Hockey Club into Denver for the second of three meetings between the teams this season. The Avs won their first-ever game in Utah, 5-1, back in late-October, as five different goal scorers lit the lamp for Colorado. Paced by the NHL’s 12th ranked scoring defense, Utah has won five of its last nine games, with all five victories coming on away ice and holding opponents to two goals or less.

Reigning league MVP Nathan MacKinnon leads the NHL in assists and points this season and comes into this game after scoring or assisting on five of the Avalanche’s six goals in a 6-2 road win at Pittsburgh on Tuesday, including the 600th assist of his career. MacKinnon, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, tallied a career-high 140 points last season, marking his second consecutive year accumulating over 110 points.

Despite being held without a goal in six straight games, Utah winger Dylan Guenther leads the team with 10 goals this season, marking his second consecutive double-digit goal scoring campaign. Gunther scored 18 goals in Arizona last season and is still looking for his first career goal in three tries against Colorado. 

The Colorado power play ranks ninth in the league scoring on 25.3 percent of chances with the man advantage, but has just one power play goal on 10 tries over the last five games.
