Winners of six of their last eight games, the Colorado Avalanche return to Ball Arena on Wednesday night to take on the Pacific Division leading Vegas Golden Knights in the second of three games between the Western Conference rivals this season. The Golden Knights are 3-1 so far on their current five-game road trip winning a shootout in Philadelphia on Monday night and have now won four of their last five games on away ice. Vegas won the first meeting back on opening night trouncing Colorado 8-4 as Mark Stone and Ivan Barbashev each tallied a pair of goals for the Golden Knights in the home victory.

Reigning MVP Nathan MacKinnon leads the NHL in assists and is tied for the most points in the league despite being held without a point in three of his last five games. MacKinnon, the number one overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, is eight assists away from 600 for his career after posting a career high 89 helpers a year ago becoming the 22nd player in NHL history to record 50 goals with 80 assists in a season.

Vegas ranks third in the league on the power play converting on 30.9% of chances with the man advantage led by center Jack Eichel’s 11 assists on the power play. Eichel has the second-most assists of anyone in the league this season and is four assists shy of his eighth career 30-assist season.

The Golden Knights have won three of the last four meetings in this series but have lost two straight trips to Denver failing to score a goal losing both games by identical 3-0 scores.
