Winning streaks collide as division leading Golden Knights continues northern road trip against Oilers

Winners of seven of their last eight games, the Edmonton Oilers return home to Rogers Place on Saturday afternoon for a matinee divisional matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights in the third of four meetings between the teams this season. Vegas has won eight of their last 10 games, including four in a row, and have already defeated the Oilers twice this season by a combined 5-2 score. Vegas leads the Pacific Division by four points heading into the weekend is five points above Edmonton as the Golden Knights look to become the second Western Conference team to win 20 games this season.

The Golden Knights top three centers Jack Eichel, Ivan Barbashev and Tomas Hertl have combined for 32 goals and 57 assists through Vegas’ first 29 games. Eichel, in his fourth season with the Golden Knights, has already secured his third consecutive 30-assist season and is on pace to obliterate his career high of 82 assists set with Buffalo during the 2018-19 campaign.

Edmonton is led by its centers Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl who have combined for 82 points this season paced by Draisaitl’s NHL best 21 goals. Draistaitl has 10 points in his last four games including a four-point effort in Thursday’s 7-1 win at Minnesota.

Led by the league’s fifth ranked power play unit that is converting on 27.0% of chances with the man advantage, Vegas is sixth in the NHL scoring 3.48 goals per game with Eichel tallying 11 power play assists and Hertl posting a team-leading seven goals on the power play.

Vegas has won seven of the last 11 meetings in this series with five of the seven wins coming by two or more goals.
