Boston has lost 16 of their last 19 games, including each of the last eight, but are still mathematically alive for the postseason trailing the final Wild Card spot by eight points with eight games to play. Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin is sixth in the NHL with his team leading 37 goals this season and is now just five goals away from passing Wayne Gretzky for the all-time goal scoring record.

In his 20^th season with the Capitals, Ovechkin has tallied his 19^th career 30-goal campaign having posted seven goals in his last 14 games and leads Washington with 37 goals this season. The 39-year-old Russian was the number one overall selection in the 2004 NHL Draft and has torched the Bruins for 29 goals in 68 career games against Boston but has been held without a goal against them this season.

The Bruins have struggled on offense this season ranking 29^th on the power play and in goals scored per game despite winger David Pastrnak ranking in the top 10 in goals and points this season. For the eighth time in 11 seasons, Pastrnak has eclipsed the 30-goal mark and is five goals shy of his fifth 40-goal season.
