The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning both try to end extended losing streaks on Saturday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night, with these Atlantic Division rivals facing off for the last time this season. Both the Maple Leafs and Lightning are trying to dig themselves out of a hole lately. Toronto is trying to end a six-game losing streak, while Tampa Bay is trying to end a four-game losing streak. These foes are at the opposite ends of the Atlantic standings, with Tampa Bay leading the division with 80 points while Toronto is second-to-last with 65. Despite them sitting on opposite ends of the spectrum, this series is tied 1-1. The Lightning tied it at home on Feb. 25 in a 4-2 final, after they were shut out in Game 1 in Toronto in December. Nikita Kucherov scored and added two assists to help Tampa tie this series. It was the ninth 30-goal season of his career, and he climbed to 701 assists for his storied career. Brayden Point was the first star with two goals and an assist. It was a happier time for the team, as Tampa Bay was winning its sixth straight game. Even on the road tonight, the Lightning should be the favorite to bounce back and win this series.

Both teams are coming off lopsided losses on Thursday. The Maple Leafs dropped to the New York Rangers 6-2 at Madison Square Garden despite outshooting their opponent 31-24. To give you a sense of how much the Rangers have been struggling this season, it was New York’s first home regulation win since Nov. 24. Alexis Lafreniere scored the go-ahead goal in the third period, where the Maple Leafs were outscored 4-0. Matias Maccelli scored just 13 seconds into regulation, and then Easton Cowan scored the second goal early in the second period to put Toronto up 2-1. New York scored nearly two minutes later, and Toronto would never lead the rest of the way.

The Jets humbled the Lightning on the road on Thursday, with Winnipeg winning 4-1. Tampa Bay lost 5-1 in its previous game against the Minnesota Wild, so the Lightning are due to go off, offensively, tonight. Team USA Gold Medal hero Connor Hellebuyck was just too much in the net once again, stopping 26 shots. Mark Scheifele put up a goal and an assist, while adding the game-winning goal with just 18 seconds left in the second period. Brayden Point scored early in the third on the power play to bring Tampa Bay within a goal, but the Lightning couldn’t score the rest of the game.
