The English stayed alive in the series on Tuesday with a 46-run win via the DLS method at Chester-le-Street. England’s victory snapped Australia’s 14-match winning streak in ODI play that stretched back to the 2023 World Cup. England came into the series ranked No. 7 in the International Cricket Council’s world rankings.

Stand-in captain Harry Brook scored his first century for England on Tuesday, hanging up 110 off 94 balls while Will Jacks totaled 84 off 82 before the rains came and ended the match. Joffra Archer took two wickets, Jacob Bethell notched a maiden over and Manny Potts logged a 5.33 economy rate in nine overs.
Alex Carey scored 77 runs off 65 and Steve Smith put up 60 off 82 for Australia in its first loss since Oct. 12, 2023, to South Africa during the World Cup. Mitchell Starc took two wickets to pass Mitchell Johnson for fourth place on Australia’s all-time list with 241. Cameron Green also took a pair of wickets in the loss.
Travis Head, the Australian batsman ranked No. 9 in the world, did not bat on Tuesday after scoring 154 runs off 129 in the first match and 183 in the series. Jacks, ranked No. 81 and England’s top batter on the squad, has 146 runs in three matches.
