Scottie Scheffler, who won the Masters championship last month and stands atop the Official World Golf Ranking, shot a 66 on Friday in the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Eighteen players remained on the course at the time play halted due to darkness. The start of the round was delayed by more than 90 minutes after a traffic fatality near the club’s entrance. While police investigated the incident, Scheffler — en route to the course — was taken into custody after allegedly failing to follow police instructions. First-round leader Xander Schauffele followed up a PGA Championship-record 62 on Thursday with a second-round 68 and leads Collin Morikawa by one shot entering the weekend.

Defending champion Brooks Koepka birdied the 18th to finish Friday with a 68 and is five shots off the lead in a tie for 11th place. Five players shared the low round of the day with six-under-par 65s, including Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, Matt Wallace, Hideki Matsuyama and Lee Hodges.
Sahith Theegala stands in solo third after a third-round 67, while Thomas Detry, Scheffler, Mark Hubbard and DeChambeau share fourth place, three shots off the pace. Austin Eckroat, Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau are tied for eighth at eight-under for the tournament. Tiger Woods missed the cut after a second-round 77.
The field is chasing the $3.15 million winner’s share of the tournament’s $17.5 million purse, along with 750 FedExCup points.
