Schwab Cup leader Ernie Els and defending champ Rod Pampling lead the field into the SAS Championship on Friday.

The PGA Tour Champions regular season concludes this weekend with the SAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, North Carolina, with the first round set for Friday. Defending champion Rod Pampling is back to defend his title after beating Steven Alker by two strokes last year. Also in the field is Schwab Cup leader Ernie Els, whose $2,209,318 in winnings leads Alker’s $2,021,973, while Stephen Ames is the only other player on the tour to eclipse $2 million in earnings at $2,021,675. Both Alker and Ames are also in the field this weekend.

The top 72 players on the money list qualify for next weekend’s first playoff stop, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Virginia. The top 54 advance to the Simmons Bank Championship in Little Rock, Arkansas, on Oct. 25-27, with the best 36 going on to the 72-hole Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix from Nov. 7-10.

Rocco Mediate isn’t playing this week after winning the Constellation Furyk and Friends in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday. He picked up $315,000 after beating Bob Estes in a two-hole playoff. Mediate is 13th on the money list and is safely in the playoff field with $912,452 in winnings.

Two-time winner Bernhard Langer (2012 and 2018) looks to become the first three-time winner of the SAS Championship, which launched in 2001. He currently shares the mark of two victories with Bruce Lietzke (2001-02) and Russ Cochran (2010 and 2013).
