The element of randomness to this season has hit nearly every aspect of the NFL this year. Nothing really rivals that sensibility more than the dismal NFC East. Somehow every team in that division is still in the playoff hunt. Both the Eagles and Cowboys square off this week but they have the worst chances to win the division and make the playoffs with nine and five percent respectively. The Giants aren't much better at 10 percent and Washington are the front runners with 75 percent odds. Alex Smith remains questionable thought to return for their game against the Carolina Panthers.

Those implications for the Eagles and Cowboys are huge. First off, if Philly or Dallas lose this game they are out of the playoff hunt. But if Washington wins they are both out regardless. QB Dwayne Haskins was fined for visiting a strip club in violation of COVID protocols and was stripped of his captain title. Cowboys and Eagles fans are hoping that affects Haskins play if he gets the start.

As for the Eagles, they are playing well under new quarterback Jalen Hurts. They won in a surprising upset against the Saints and played really well matching Kyler Murray against the Cardinals in a loss last week. Each and every week it is looking more likely that Carson Wentz won't be in an Eagles uniform next season. Hurts turns over the ball significantly less than Wentz in just his rookie season and first two starts as well as taking less sacks.

It is being reported that Wentz is currently unhappy about his situation coming off the bench with the team's playoff hopes in the balance. Hurts may not be the transcendent player that the Eagles thought Wentz could be but right now he is giving the Eagles a much better chance at winning. They will need that against the Cowboys who won last week in an impressive defensive performance against the 49ers.

That same San Francisco team beat a much better Cardinals team this week. Andy Dalton has had a rough go of it as the Cowboys backup but has made them competitive of late enough to give the city hope. It will help now that it has been reported that running back Ezekiel Elliott will return for this one after he missed the first game of his career last week with a calf injury. This NFC clash could be anyone's game.
